As time passes, though, Sari let a different vision for her lawn take shape, one which was inspired by the book Last Child in the Woods and its own notion that unstructured outdoor play is fantastic for children' development. Gore enjoys tree trunks for children's outdoor spaces, both since they're a natural repurposed material and since"they could be swiped endlessly," she says. In the front lawn, the Lehrer children use them as oversize steppingstones.
