On the way, Factor purchased the property next door and his residence was enlarged to include a 2,700-square-foot guest house.
Together with landscape architect Victoria Pakshong of [place] landscape collaborative, (fer) studio designed a strategy for its enlarged house's natural upslope. As time passes, though, Sari let a different vision for her lawn take form, one that was motivated by the book Last Child in the Woods and its notion that unstructured outdoor play is good for children' development. With the help of landscape designer Samantha Gore, Sari Gave the hillside area an enchanting new look, adding willow tunnels, tree stumps, and a gigantic nest perched in a tree to encourage exploration. "When kids come over, I see that this'holy smokes' reaction in their eyes," Sari says. "They can't believe they could really dig climb."
Since everything is built from natural materials rather than chunky Plastic, the backyard is still complicated enough for mature dinner parties.
