Preserving its post-and-beam structure and rhythm, (fer) studio added a carport, cabana, and a gym with a private patio serving the master suite. Along the way, Factor bought the house next door and his residence was expanded to include a 2,700-square-foot guest home.

Along with landscape architect Victoria Pakshong of [place] landscape collaborative, (fer) studio made a strategy for the enlarged house's natural upslope. A railroad-tie path traverses the entire width of the property, and also the enlarged entryway/ driveway is constructed from concrete pavers and permeable Grasscrete. Gore enjoys tree trunks for children's outdoor spaces, both because they're a natural repurposed material and since"they can be swiped endlessly," she states. From the front lawn, the Lehrer children use them as oversize steppingstones.
