Preserving its post-and-beam structure and rhythm, (fer) studio inserted a seat, cabana, and a gym with a private patio serving the master suite. On the way, Factor bought the house next door and his residence was expanded to incorporate a 2,700-square-foot guest house.

A railroad-tie path traverses the whole width of the estate, and the enlarged entryway/ driveway is made of concrete pavers and permeable Grasscrete. The pool and outside activity zones are made with an emphasis on the horizontal lines of their house, keeping a low profile so that nothing beats that amazing view.

Over time, however, Sari let a different vision for her yard take form, one that was motivated by the publication Last Child in the Woods and its notion that unstructured outdoor play is fantastic for kids' development.
