Maintaining its post-and-beam structure and rhythm, (fer) studio inserted a carport, cabana, and a gym with a personal patio serving the master suite. Along the way, Factor purchased the house next door and his home was enlarged to incorporate a 2,700-square-foot guest house.

Along with landscape architect Victoria Pakshong of [place] landscape collaborative, (fer) studio made a plan for its enlarged house's natural upslope. A railroad-tie path traverses the whole width of the estate, and also the enlarged entryway/ driveway is constructed of concrete pavers and permeable Grasscrete. Gore enjoys tree trunks for children's outdoor spaces, both since they're a natural repurposed material and since"they can be rearranged endlessly," she says. From the front yard, the Lehrer children use them as oversize steppingstones.
