A small willow tunnel provides a secret-garden quality to some course. "Tunnels can be made out of many things," says Gore. "Let a shrub or tree grow into the ground and trim back the undergrowth. Or weave willow wisps or green cuttings from an acacia or a grapevine."

Gore loves tree trunks for children's outdoor spaces, both because they are a natural repurposed material and since"they can be swiped endlessly," she states. In the front lawn, the Lehrer children use them as oversized steppingstones.
