Over time, however, Sari let a different vision for her yard take shape, one that was inspired by the book Last Child in the Woods and its own notion that unstructured outdoor play is fantastic for kids' development. Gore enjoys tree trunks for children's outdoor spaces, both since they're a natural repurposed material and since"they could be swiped endlessly," she says. From the front yard, the Lehrer kids use them as oversized steppingstones.
